Ira & I Are Going to Northern Africa!

What you’ll need:

*A digital camera (an SLR)

*Your own laptop computer. It does not matter which platform you are using - Mac or PC - but it is important that your operating system is up-to-date (OSX, Windows 8 or VISTA). Please have at least 15-20 GB of open hard drive space and at least 1 GB of RAM (2 GB recommended).

*Digital memory cards and a card reader (at least three or four cards of 8GB or more)

*Power adapters and cables for laptop and digital camera

*Batteries and charger for rechargeable batteries

*A pen-drive

*Software for editing your images

Ira Block:

For more than thirty years, Ira Block has been covering assignments around the world for National Geographic—in locations as diverse as Africa, the Australian outback, the Gobi Desert, Siberia, the North Pole, Greenland, and Baffin Island. The subject matter of Ira's photographs is as varied as the destinations stamped in his passport. Some of his assignments include "The Samurai Way" and "Race to Save Incan Mummies." From gold coins retrieved from Havana's sunken treasure ships to the largest discovered T-Rex dinosaur, to a lost Confederate submarine, Ira's lens continues to capture and document amazing stories from around the globe. His photos of the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy are part of the permanent collection of the National September 11 Memorial Museum.

Liza Politi:

Liza’s first documentary feature, “By The People” (2006) was broadcast on PBS and won a prestigious HUGO award. Currently shooting "Best Seat in the House," a documentary focusing on Rock-star drummers, Liza is also in post-production on a new full-length feature, "Suck It Up Buttercup." For the famed Culture Project, Liza produced “Impact On The Gulf”, a multimedia action-oriented human rights festival which debuted in New York City; and in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, her USO-style tour, Broadway on the Bayou received national attention and was featured on MSNBC. Liza is now working with National Geographic and their legendary photographers, producing expeditions and photography workshops all over the world.  Comfortable on both sides of the camera, she is also an award winning actor, photographer and teacher.

Join me and National Geographic’s Ira Block in Morocco!

This September we will be visiting the mythical land of Morocco. Travel with us to the imperial cities of Fez, Meknes and Marrakech. With their spectacular souks and vivid mosaics, we’ll meander through their ancient medinas, camera in hand. We’ll also explore Morocco’s diverse landscapes; the cities, the dunes, the palm oasis and the mountains. Take part in a camel trek across the desert sands of Merzouga and photograph the sun as it sets over the Sahara. Sleep in a traditional Berber tent. We’ll discover the UNESCO sites of Ait Benhaddou, where so many feature films have been shot, and we’ll wander among the Roman ruins of Volibilis. Hands on technical classes and daily critiques will take your photography to the next level.
